The Winni-Basin Trails is an effort in collaboration with several regional trail associations to create an interconnected multi-use trail system with contribute to the social, cultural, environmental, and economic well-being of the residents and visitors to the area. A cooperative 134 mile trail system would create New England’s largest interconnected trail system.
Our plans include linking Trestle View Park to Odell Park via a pedestrian boulevard and bicycle path which connects the downtown with the mill district and river. The long-term Phase I connection will ideally begin at the end of the WRT and run through Trestle View Park. It will continue behind Central Street businesses along Canal Street and feed into Memorial Street, where it will then continue behind Stanley Mill and the Armory and connect with the existing Odell Park Path. The Phase II connection will head parallel to the Winnipesaukee River, adjacent to Riverbend Mill and the Franklin Public Library, and links the Odell Park Path to Central Street.
Construction of this path will complete the much anticipated link between the Northern Rail Trail and the Winnipesaukee River Trail in dramatic fashion. A separate non-profit with these trail associations and stakeholders will be created to spearhead this initiative.
